‘Are we ready for Social Commerce?’

The article came on the back of comments from senior marketers at eBay including Phillip Rinn, director of advertising partnerships, who said British consumers weren’t ready for social commerce and that eBay were ‘instead testing ways in which social media more broadly could fit into a transactional website.’  Alex Marks, eBay’s head of international business marketing, added that ‘although social media is important for retailers, it doesn’t need to be a separate focus.’
IMRG’s David Smith said many retailers ‘feel they could get a better return on investment from other channels’, and are therefore only using social media for reputation management purposes, which seemed to back up eBay’s view that if the market is not ready brands were going to focus attentions elsewhere

Social, Mobile, SEO and PPC are being heavily exploited without highly targeted strategies. The infancy of these platforms and lack of industry expertise at hand, these channels have not been fully exploited.
